It’s a new year…

I cannot believe it’s 2022! I love a new year for all the possibilities and excitement it brings, but what I also love is how the changing of the calendar means a time to reflect back on the year that’s passed, and 2021 sure was an exciting one in my voiceover career!

I decided near the beginning of 2021 that I really wanted to see where voiceover could take me. I was told throughout my earlier years that I had “such a great voice” and that I “should look into voice acting”. I’m SO glad I decided to give it a shot. It was scary, and there were moments I thought “what am I doing?!” But once I dove in head first, I found an amazing community of actors doing what I always dreamed of doing. Pushing myself out of my comfort zone and getting back into acting has been so fulfilling and has really expanded my abilities and mind more than I could have dreamed.

I found an amazing group of coaches with Universal Voice Talent, spearheaded by Terry Daniel, and got key training and know-how from coaches Trish Basanyi and Garnet Williams. To this day, they continue to help me with their coaching, and by answering questions and offering advice and I’m so grateful.

I also found Voice One, a voice school in San Francisco, where I got to meet fellow actors in class and play around and push myself. They offered (and still do) virtual Zoom courses, which were great during the heat of the pandemic and saved me time driving to location for school. I even wrote them a little testimonial, which they have featured on their website here (neat!): https://www.voiceone.com/testimonials

I continued through 2021 honing my skills by doing auditions on casting sites, attending webinars, learning about dubbing for voiceover, learning from potential scams (WOW!), and gaining some momentum on social media by doing fun challenges. I also collaborated with my first three clients! It was a thrill to work through the process from start to finish and see the end project with a happy client and a full-filling artistic feeling.

November 2021 gave me a big boost up in my career and I cannot wait to see what happens next. At the end of December, I entered a social media contest with SkillsHub via the HalpNetwork and won a 6 months free membership for SkillsHub, which will allow me to network with artists, submit to roles and access to some great coaches in the industry.

I start the year 2022 with some amazing knowledge under my belt and a big heart full of hope for what lies ahead!

Happy New Year! What are you looking forward to this year?

Also, as always, a big shoutout to my friend and photographer Keith Barraclough for the great blog icon image and most of the images throughout my website!
