A May Recap

May came and went and as usual I filled each day with voiceover fun and creativity!

I started the month off by seeing some family for my cousin’s college graduation in Washington (first time to the state!). It was lovely to see them after so long. My 2 younger cousins and I had a blast catching up and also had some fun making a parody to THAT “Twilight” movie scene (where Edward makes Bella say “VAMPIRE!”) and it was so silly and wonderful since their house is located deep in the Washington forest! We did it all in one take basically and that DEER was REAL!! See here: Twilight Scene.

Also while in Washington, I was able to see my Uncle Tom. He runs a reclaimed wood company in Southern California called “True American Grain”. He recently had some new videos made of his work in his clients’ home, and tapped me to write a script and do the narration for it! I was more than happy to! We sat at my aunt’s kitchen island (with wine in hand, naturally) and created a 2 minute script. It’s finally up on their Youtube channel (and also on my Instagram and “Recent Work” page on my site here). Check it out! I plan to do more in the coming months and I can’t wait.

Mid-May I found out I was a random weekly winner for GalaxyCon’s raffle! I discovered GalaxyCon online, during the pandemic, and their celebrity panels (for Doctor Who, Halloweentown and more!) really got me through the pandemic, since I love attending conventions. They drew my name and I won a $100 credit to anything in their online store. Score! I got a certified Catherine Tate autograph, a cute new pink GalaxyCon shirt and a magnet! I just hung the autograph in my booth with some other autographs I had, and it looks so cool. Thanks GalaxyCon!

The last Sunday in May, I participated in a class with one of the coaches on my goal list this year: Brent Hagel! He owns Trailer Voice Artists, and I had been interested in learning more about Promo and Trailer voice work. I got some great feedback on my reads and learned more about that side of the industry. Plus, a fellow former classmate, Darius, was in the class! The VO world is a small place. I’m looking forward to taking on another Promo and Trailer workshop very soon.

I just signed up for a 2 week online course later this month with a linguist and dialect coach for a class on “Accents of the Midlands and Northern England”. Getting my British accents up to par is also a goal, so this should be a great step towards that.

I also sat down at my mic and recorded my character voices for my coach to write scripts for my Character and Animation demo! It’s been a lot of work to get to this point (5 one-on-one coaching sessions and various character classes!) and I’m really excited to see the scripts he’ll create around what I provided him. I’ll have to wait a couple weeks before we have a prep session, but I hope to have the demo out in a few months! Woo!

As always, I’m auditioning for my agent, finding work on my own and searching casting sites for more gigs. And I’ve been having fun interacting with people on socials and making fun reels and constantly thinking of new content to showcase my voice. Follow along for more by finding my socials at the top right of my site!

Thanks for reading and following along with my journey! Until next time!
