May brings new things- plus a catch-up!

I’ve been head down in the day to day of my acting journey and haven’t had a proper blog update in….well…a WHILE!

In February, I finished my Promo class with Skillshub and coach Nicole Balick. It was a fun, six hour online class that spread out over 6 weeks. We learned all about promos in different genres. It was a great class with some super actors! Also had a FUN (read: sarcastic) time doing my business taxes for the year. There’s always a learning curve but I’m happy I got them done. Each year I do them, I feel more and more like a business lady!

I’ve filmed a couple of self-tape on camera (!) auditions for my LA agent, which were a BLAST, but it had me thinking about upgrading my self-tape audition setup, and I needed to get a backdrop. Many of the backdrop setups I saw cost anywhere from $40-$100, just to hang a backdrop, so I wanted to be more efficient and came up with a cheaper way. Here is the link to the video to show you how I did it for only $20: @voiceoversbymollyllc Backdrop Setup. It only consisted of two items I got at a hardware store! Thought it was pretty clever :)

I’ve also made an effort to get to the movie theater more- especially to see horror films! Seeing Scream and Evil Dead Rise was awesome. I also got to see a special screening of the Studio Ghibli film “Spirited Away”, Live on Stage! It was amazing to see it adapted to stage and the puppetry was so skillful.

I attended a great film mixer in April put on by Movie Making Throughout the Bay (MMTB)! I got up and pitched my skills as an actor and voice actor and met fellow actors as well as producers, directors, and crew.

The most exciting thing so far this year has been taking on MMTB’s Feature Film Challenge! I signed up for two days to be an actor in the film. This past Saturday, I filmed my first day. I arrived to their studio in Rodeo, California for the shoot lasting from 9:30am to 6:40pm. I was a tad nervous arriving on set, with about 15 scenes to film that I was in, but as the day progressed and I got to meet actors, crew and extras, I got more comfortable and it was so fun to finally act out the scenes as my character, Stacey, the bartender! I loved being on a set again and remembering how technical and specific everything has to be to work just right. All the scenes we filmed were shots over my shoulder, which required the director to pull my arm in and out of shot. We finished off with some wide shots of a few scenes but had to wrap before my on camera shots, which we’ll film May 28. I’m still beaming over the day, and how great it felt to be back on a film set!

When the film is complete around Springtime 2024, they might screen it on a Bay Area movie theater screen. It’ll be released on streaming and I’ll also obtain my first IMDB film credit. So cool! You can head here to my Instagram to see BTS shots of the shoot from May 6: @voiceoversbymollyllc

I’ve got a few things in the works, and also time off coming up, which I’m soooo excited and grateful for! I entered my Character/Animation demo in 2 different voiceover awards, so we’ll have to see if I get nominated! You never know :)

Check out my socials for fun acting challenges and reels I’m creating. I’ll try not to let so much time go by without updating this blog again!

Hope this finds you well and thanks for reading!
